Summer Staff Opportunites Group Counselors:
Group counselors have the opportunity to work with one age group for the entire season. Groups average 13-14 campers each day. During staff training group counselors are trained to lead many activities for their groups. At other activities such as swimming, horseback riding, arts & crafts, gymnastics, nature, animal care and canoeing, group counselors play an important role assisting the specialty instructors, but are not expected to have the training needed to teach these specialized activities.

Roving Counselors:
Roving counselors have the opportunity to work with campers of all ages throughout the summer. They are not assigned to one particular age group, but rather work with many different campers throughout the summer. Roving counselors work side by side with group counselors to help provide extra attention and direction for camp groups. They also have the opportunity to fill in for any staff members who may be out sick.

Co-Counselors:
Graduating high school students who are interested in a group counseling position are eligible to apply for a co-counseling position. Co-counselors fill the same type of role that a group counselor does.

Swimming Pool Lead Guard:
The Pool Lead Guard is responsible for coordinating and overseeing all aspects of the camp swim program and pool, including working with a swim staff of two or three and additional staff who are on duty at the pool. The swim program includes providing daily structured lessons to campers of all abilities and supervising free swim periods.

Position Prerequisites:

  • Current certification in all of the following: American Red Cross (ARC), YMCA or equivalent/Lifeguard Training, ARC or equivalent Standard First Aid, Adult & Child CPR.
  • Previous experience supervising or managing an aquatics program is desired.
  • Current or previous certification in one of the following: ARC WSI, BSA Aquatics Instructor, YMCA Instructor in Swimming and Lifesaving.
  • Minimum 21 years of age is preferred.

Swimming Pool Instructors/Lifeguards:
There are three or four swim instructors in addition to the Pool Director at camp. They are responsible for teaching swimming and for life guarding.

Position Prerequisites:

  • Current certification in:

    1. American Red Cross or YMCA Lifeguard Training
    2. Adult & Child CPR
    3. First Aid.

  • WSI certification is preferred.

Horse Specialist:
Horse Specialist is responsible for teaching riding and horsemanship, as well as caring for and feeding the horses, in addition to other animals.

Position Prerequisites:

  • Previous riding and horse care experience is required.
  • Must be certified in Adult & Child CPR and First Aid.

Gymnastics Instructor:
The gymnastics instructor is responsible for implementing an introductory gymnastics program for campers of all ages. He/She is responsible for instruction and safety within the gymnastics program. Previous gymnastics teaching and/or competition experience required.

Nature/Ecology Instructor:
The nature instructors implement our nature program. The hands-on, fun learning projects teach campers about nature and the world in which they live. Some of the units include ecology, Native American culture, natural wonders, the solar system, the rain forest and much more. Instructors are encouraged to add their own knowledge and creativity to the program. Previous teaching experience is helpful but not required, and an aptitude for science and nature is beneficial.

Arts & Crafts Instructor:
The arts & crafts instructors implement a creative, hands-on arts & crafts program. They teach campers of all ages, and have the opportunity to bring their creativity and ideas to the program. A background in crafts is beneficial but not required.

Offsite Specialist:
The offsite specialist works with campers entering 4th - 7th grades. The specialist leads offsite hiking trips to local mountain areas, and teach the basics of outdoor survival skills (i.e. shelter building, compass reading, knots, etc...) The offsite specialist is responsible for planning their own curriculum to be discussed with and approved by the director prior to camp. The specialist must possess ARC or equivalent First Aid and Adult & Child CPR.

Song/Music/Drama Leader:
The song/drama leader teaches traditional and contemporary camp songs in addition to creative dramatic activities. This specialty area has also incorporated dance in the past, depending on the interest of the person in the position. The song leader has the opportunity to work with all of the camp groups throughout the summer and may also be involved in leading songs at morning and/or afternoon assemblies, and at the two camp sleepouts.

Ropes Course Specialist:
The challenge ropes course specialist instructs campers 4th grade and older at our on-site high ropes course. The Ropes Course Specialist must be trained or become trained in the skills necessary to run the course. Training is available through camp.

Rock Climbing Instructor:
The rock climbing instructor teaches campers 4th grade and older the basics of rock climbing on our portable 25' climbing wall. When not teaching, the rock climbing instructor joins our core group of counselors. The rock climbing instructor must have experience or become trained in the skills necessary to run the climbing wall. Training is available through camp.
Animal Care Specialist:
The petting farm specialist works with the animals in our petting farm, exposing children to animal care. The petting farm specialist must have a background in general animal care and the desire to create and teach an animal care program.

First Aid Provider:
The first aid provider at each camp manages the basic first aid needs of our campers and staff. This care includes caring for common camp injuries, such as scrapes, bruises and bee-stings, and administering daily medications. Previous experience working with children is preferred. Must be certified in First Aid and Adult and Child CPR.

Office Staff:
Our office staff positions are vital to the running of camp. Every summer we add summer office staff to our year-round administrative office. At Camp Kinneret we hire two summer-only staff who work 30 to 40 hours per week. All of the positions are Monday through Friday. Responsibilities include general office duties, heavy phone communication with camp parents, data and word processing. Positions pay an hourly rate.

Maintenance Staff:
There are one or two maintenance staff each summer. The daily routine includes taking out and putting away sports equipment, putting away and handing our camper lunches and basic site clean up. Additional opportunities for work from 6/1 - 6/14 and 8/22 - 8/27. Positions pay an hourly rate.
